My Date with the Glee Kids

Last Friday I had the perfect date.
With the cast of Glee.
And about 400 other people.

It was amazing.

I've admitted my obsession with the show before, and if you follow me on Twitter I'm sure you've seen my incessant 'oh em gee' tweets on Tuesday nights. So, to say that last Friday was amazing might be the biggest understatement of the year.

But let me back up a little bit, because it almost didn't happen- which would have been the second time to have passed up this awesome opportunity. The first came last spring, when I scored passes to the taping of the final performance but had to pass due to conflicts with work. Fortunately, this bout of successful "be the among the first 200 to respond" Facebooking came on the heels of my recent unemployment, so there would be no cubicles to hold me back. Except every other person I know in all of LA has a job, and no one was available to go- despite the 5pm call time.

Cue to Friday morning and all afternoon when I was undergoing an internal turmoil of do I or don't I? It's ridiculous, really, when I think about it- because why shouldn't I go? It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to see firsthand a taping of one of my favorite television shows, one of the most popular one on television at that. But I have this innate fear of disapproval- and all I could think of is what people would be thinking when I was standing in line by myself, when they realized I came alone.

PEOPLE WHO I WOULD NEVER SEE AGAIN. And I was worried what they would think of me. At 26 years old. Then, I realized that I was being ridiculous, and the whole premise of the show is to be true to yourself, no matter what anyone else thinks. So I sucked up all my insecurities and took myself out of my comfort zone.

And after two awkward hours waiting in line, I had the time of my life.

I was on the highest level of the balcony, so I doubt that I'll be making any appearances on the small screen, but I did get to cheer and clap with the crowd so I do get a small little claim to fame on the Dec. 8th episode, albeit anonymously. The episode they were filming was the Sectionals episode, and we were able to watch all the performances of the three competing teams, including two by the New Directions. I'll honor the spoilers we were treated to, and all I'll say is that I'm really excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds.

While at times I felt like I was reverting to my teeny-bopper days (*NSync, anyone?) it was such an energetic environment and amazing to see people from six to sixty years old sitting on the edge of their seats. The cast seemed so amicable and participated in quick Q&A session with the crowd, showing us a realistic glimpse into their off-screen personalities. I must admit, my real-life crush on Cory Monteith grew immensely, and I still hold-fast on the fact that I want to be IRL-BFF with Diana Agron. She just seems uber cool and down-to-earth.

All in all, it was an amazing way to spend my Friday evening. I got to see a new part of LA (Glendale), which I'm always a fan of, I had a behind-the-scenes Hollywood experience, and I forced myself to face one of my biggest fears (doing stuff alone). To be honest, I'm really happy that I went, not just for the massive spoiler alerts, but because I feel like I walked away a stronger person for doing something by -and for - myself.

Are You Lost?

I have a tendency of following television shows, only to get really mad at a story-line and stop watching.  A la Alias, circa season five, when all of a sudden Michael Vaughn wasn't really Michael Vaughn and became a guest star instead of a series regular (most likely due to the IRL break-up with Jennifer Garner).

Most of the time, when new characters are introduced I get bored or annoyed (because character development is paramount to me) so shows like Grey's Anatomy? Yeah, I stopped watching.  Shows that revolve around high school I try to avoid, one-because I'm not in high school anymore, but two- because they can't survive the post-graduation season (I'm talking to you, Gossip Girl).

Basically, I'm a TV show snob, and usually my loyalty is unwavering, but under one condition... good writing.  So when I sat down to watch the season 5 premiere of Lost last winter and basically wasted two hours of my life while they regurgitated past story lines with a new "present-tense" twist, I got fed up, turned off the TV, canceled the DVR recordings, and quickly became an ex-Lost viewer. They lost me.

Pun! [Now that's good writing!!]

Thanks to Facebook and Twitter, though, each and every Wednesday night without fail, my social media experience was inundated with status updates on the awesomeness of Lost.  I stood firm that I wouldn't watch, especially after missing a couple of episodes into the season, there was no way I would understand what was going on... I mean, have you ever watched this show?!

Now, apparently all the shows that I do watch are on hiatus until March. MARCH! Whatever happened to the February sweeps?  And no new TV + unemployment = boredom.  I finally watched the missed episodes of season five of Alias, and I wasn't disappointed-- J.J. Abrams is a genius.  Which got me thinking that he was behind Lost, which was why I started watching it in the first place. [Speaking of JJ, I never watched Felicity...]

At any rate in all this insomniac blabbering, I went out and bought season five of Lost, which is totally messing with my OCD because I own the first two seasons, but not the third or fourth, but I only had money to buy one boxed set.  Ideally, I would love to catch up from the very beginning, since I barely remember what happened at the end of season 4.

Then I found this gem of a video.  And laughed-out-loud at the snarky commentary.

I wonder if it's possible to go into Lost overload, because I'm sure I'll start watching this season and not be able to stop.  I'm already enough of an insomniac as it is.

And a note to President Obama: I love you, I do, really.  But please, please, schedule your State of the Union address for a date other than February 2nd.  If this season is really as good as everyone says it to be, I might die if it's pre-empted.

Where I Profess my Gleek-dom

Is anyone else completely obsessed with this show? Because I absolutely adore it. The singing, the dancing, the mash-ups, the humor, the ooh-la-la eye candy (I'm talking to you Cory Monteith), and not to mention it fictionally takes place in Ohio.

It's official, I am a Gleek. And I am not ashamed.

Sadly, there isn't a new episode until next week. My Wednesday nights just haven't been the same the last few weeks since Glee has been pre-empted due to the World Series. But if there is one thing I love more than Glee, it's baseball, so I'm okay with that.

So imagine my elation when the cast sang the national anthem this past Saturday for Game 3 in Philly. My two favorites. At. The. Same. Time.

Seeing this happen really makes me miss working for a major league baseball team. I never got star struck when celebrities were visiting the stadium and I just so happened to run across them or accompanied them onto the field for pre-game ceremonies... but this would have been an exception. I would definitely have been that giddy, annoying, 'ohmygosh'ing' fangirl begging for a photograph.
Which is precisely why my roommate and I are going to The Grove this Saturday for their CD signing at Barnes and Nobles. I think the last time I did anything of this nature I was about ten years old and Brian Austin Green (yes, David Silver) was signing something at a local mall.
Again, I have no shame.
Also, I want to be real-life-bff's with Dianna Agron (Quinn). Go check out her tumblr. Seriously, its named after Alice in Wonderland. Brilliant.

Get Real!

Two weeks ago my roommates and I switched cable carriers, and finally- after eight months- I was able to get cable installed in my room. Which spells T.R.O.U.B.L.E. Otherwise known as ridiculous amounts of time wasted watching reality television.

Without fail, I always get sucked into these shows. They're so pointless that I usually spend the thirty minutes snickering at the dumb things that are being done and/or said.

Alas, I've found two diamonds in the rough, and I'm sort of obsessed with both.

They may be the cutest couple. Ever. Sure, they may be in the newlywed phase of their marriage, but I think they have a pretty awesome dynamic. I love that she calls him Rancic, it's endearing- even if it is his last name. They've also managed to restore my hope in modern marriage, which is saying a lot. They both make compromises and sacrifices for the other, and I think that's just swell. Plus their dorky personalities mesh amazingly well. Their interview banters are hilarious.

Another plus, Bill sported a Miami hoody during last week's episode. Way to represent! I also adore Guiliana's assistant, Matt- he's a doll.

Good news, it was picked up for a second season.

Ok, moving on.

So I may not know when new episodes actually air, because I've just seen repeats at random times of the day- but I've seen enough to know that I want to be BFF with these people. They speak my language-- sarcasm.

I would also like Geof to be my boyfriend. And bake me cupcakes. I don't know why, exactly, but I have a major crush on him. He is the epitome of my I want a hipster dork boyfriend.

Oh, and these people are amazingly talented. I'm jealous. My attempts at baking look pathetic and make me fat. Epic Fail.

I should probably get a social life. Noted.

Any reality shows you are obsessed with? Why?
